Press Releases |   September 22, 2016

The Catan® World Championship (CWC) arrives to Durango, CO September 23-25, 2016 to determine the best Catan player in the world. For over 10 years, Catan® players from around the world have gathered to compete every two years to determine who is the best of the best. Since 2008, the tournament has been held semi-annually and alternated between locations in Europe and the United States.

The CWC is drawing 60 players from 34 countries for this prestigious tournament and will be gathering in Colorado to find out which of them will be the 2016 Catan World Champion. This year the tournament is being held at the historic Strater Hotel, in the Henry Strater Theater. The tournament will be open to the public for viewing on Saturday, September 24th and Sunday, September 25th.

In addition to its rich cultural history, Durango, CO is a natural wonder of great beauty. The town boasts 300 days of sunshine a year and sits 6,512 feet above sea level. It is the home of the Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which has been in continuous operation since 1882. While today the rails to the Old Hundred Gold Mine carry only tourists, a new breed of settler is coming to Durango when the Catan® World Championship arrives.

Portions of the tournament will be broadcast live around the world online. Please read herefor further information on the 2016 CWC tournament.
