How is the CATAN National Championship run in the United States?
Our United States tournament consists of local qualifying tournaments that take place year-round. The winners of each of the tournaments win a seat at the CATAN United States National Championship, which is normally held in June at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, OH. Players face off against all other winners of the Qualifier tournaments to become the year’s CATAN United States Champion.
The 2020 United States National Championship was cancelled due to COVID-19. All qualified players retain their qualified status and will have a seat at the next in-person United States National Championship. CATAN Studio is evaluating the feasibility of an in-person US National Championship in the Fall of 2021. We will not make a decision on this event until later in the year.
Qualified players should have received email communication from Organized Play regarding their status. Please check your email and if you have not received anything, contact Stephanie Newman, Organized Play Coordinator.
Every two years the Champions are sent to the CATAN World Championship tournament. The next CATAN World Championship will be located in Malta, taking place in November 2022. The United States champion will also compete in the Americas tournament, a new event taking place in the off-years from the World Championship.

NOTE: All participants must be US Citizens/Permanent Residents and be 18+ years of age. Winners of 2020 Qualifier Tournaments are not allowed to play in additional Qualifier events for the 2020 OR 2021 season.
