How is the CATAN National Championship run in the United States?

Our United States tournament consists of local qualifying tournaments that take place year-round. The winners of each of the tournaments win a seat at the CATAN United States National Championship, which is normally held in June at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, OH. Players face off against all other winners of the Qualifier tournaments to become the year’s CATAN United States Champion.

The 2020 United States National Championship was cancelled due to COVID-19. All qualified players retain their qualified status and will have a seat at the next in-person United States National Championship, which will be in Minneapolis, MN in October 2021. This is a standalone event, not tied to a convention. If you are a Qualifier Winner and have not received your invitation, please contact [email protected] immediately!

Every two years the Champions are sent to the CATAN World Championship tournament. The next CATAN World Championship will be located in Malta, taking place in November 2022. The United States champion will also compete in the Americas tournament, a new event taking place in the off-years from the World Championship.

We are currently booking stores, conventions, and charity events to host Qualifier Tournaments. Keep checking back to see more listings!  The 2021 Season started June 1st, 2020 and will end August 31, 2021. The 2022 season is now open and is accepting events through May 1, 2022.

NOTE: All participants must be US Citizens/Permanent Residents and be 18+ years of age. Winners of 2019 or 2020 Qualifier Tournaments are not allowed to play in additional Qualifier events for the 2021 season without first relinquishing their qualification.
